On July 17th I woke up in London and was partying in Malta by sunset but if ever there is a day to do this it should be on your birthday.
Let’s quickly skip over the part where we went to the wrong terminal after our gate had closed or tried to check-in at the wrong hotel because after a dinner of lobster and cocktails at a beach bar I had forgotten all about it.
We are staying at the Intercontinental Malta (I promise that’s the right hotel) and the location is right in the centre of St. George’s Bay. We were originally going to avoid this part of the island because of the hectic nightlife, however after last night we realised that we like having the option to be spontaneous and go out.
In the afternoon I spent my birthday on the rooftop sipping Mojitos on a sun lounger followed by an evening dinner at a seafood restaurant called Tartarun that serves the most fresh, delicious and creative dishes.
So the picture below summarises who I am in a nutshell- happy and completely ridiculous. We were just leaving the gardens after an outfit photo shoot when Chris said to me, “It’s your birthday- now dance”, so there I am shimmying and wiggling because I am the luckiest birthday girl.
This is the Maltese port of Marsaxlokk. Stunning, eh?
For my starter I chose prawn carpaccio served with lemon, sea salt and olive oil followed by lobster tagliatelle in a lobster bisque sauce. Chris had black tortellacci filled with crab and langoustine that was served in a lemon, bisque sauce. Both dishes had the ability to silence the table, which to us, is the mark of a fantastic meal.
As I could not decide I ordered two birthday desserts- rum and raisin creme brulee and a Madagascar vanilla panna cotta served with passionfruit sorbet and coconut crumble. It was the perfect way to round off the meal.
Now I know my photographers out there might have loads of technical reasons for why that light is on my eye when I am blowing out my candles but I have lost a few important people in my life and I would like to think that, that is them there celebrating with me.
