I had a Cinderella moment recently. Three days before a black tie event I needed a dress, so I scrambled online looking for a rental. Yes, a rental!
Girl Meets Dress is the modern day godmother who rescues you in a fashion crisis. They have a London warehouse that you can visit, where a personal stylist will help you find a dress based on your figure and needs. Because I needed a dress so close to the weekend there was not as much offer but the last dress I tried on was the clear winner. Trying it on in storeThis is the Girl Meets Dress office. It comes with a little seating nook, which is perfect if you want to bring girlfriends along to play your fashion judges like you’re on Project Runway. Before I went to the ball I got my hair and make-up done at the new Blow store in Canary Wharf. Blow does everything for you- nails, face, hair and they even sell beauty products that are hard to find anywhere else in the UK. I’m usually very modest but I have to say they did a magical job- from the curls to the fake eyelashes, I was completely transformed while still looking like me. Ladies we all know that random women usually don’t stop other women on the street to compliment their clothing but in that dress I had strangers telling me all evening that I looked gorgeous. I seriously felt like Cinderella with a very handsome Ralph Lauren clad Prince Charming by my side. The dinner flew by but all I wanted to do was dance and twirl in my dress outside. This evening was particularly important as it was the first time I was introduced to Mister C’s work colleagues as his fiancee. You have no idea the pride it gave me hearing him say it to anyone who would listen, This is Christiana, my fiancee….. Bless.
Like Cinderella as the clock struck 1 we left the party but while we were waiting for our driver, a tuk tuk cyclist offered us a free ride around the block. It might not have been a gold-plated pumpkin but it sure made the Cinderella fairy tale seem even more of a reality.
